Christian Watson is slowly (but surely) establishing himself as a key personnel in the Green Bay Packers’ wide receiver room. The 25-year-old wideout is showing great promise as a target for Jordan Love, making him worth his status as a high-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
But while Watson is indeed proving his worth as a quality wide receiver with his in-game production, there are increasing questions surrounding his availability. The fact that Watson is still to play a full season of NFL football in his young career is enough to get warning lights flashing in the minds of some wary Packers fans.
While the man assured fans that he’s doing everything to get himself ready on the field, Matt LaFleur made comments that should give the most dedicated Packers fans confidence about his chances to play against the Arizona Cardinals.
Matt LaFleur likes what he’s seeing out of Christian Watson’s return to the Green Bay Packers lineup
Sports Illustrated’s Bill Huber wrote a piece about the team’s Wednesday practice, where both he and Romeo Doubs returned to the squad.
Both performed individual drills as they tried to shake off the rust from their bodies. LaFleur reveals that he’s liking what he’s seeing out of Watson’s performances:
“I think it’s a great sign,” LaFleur said. “Just to have him out there, certainly we all know what he brings to our offense, to our football team, and we missed him last weekend. So, we’re really excited to get him back there and, hopefully, he continues to progress through the course of the week, and we’ll see where he’s at on game day.”
Despite LaFleur’s positive comments on Watson’s form, Packers fans expect more out of the third-year WR as he prepares to face his hometown team. He’s been disappointing this season, only completing five catches for 80 yards and one touchdown through four games.
Watson understands the pressure surrounding him as trade talks continue to circulate. He will hope to address these rumors by putting up a solid game against his hometown Cardinals.
