Another former Green Bay Packers wide receiver is headed to the AFC. This time it is not to the New York Jets to join Aaron Rodgers. Instead, Juwann Winfree is signing with the Indianapolis Colts. The team announced the move on Twitter on Tuesday.
We have signed free agent WR Juwann Winfree and waived DE Guy Thomas.

Former Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Juwann Winfree Signs with Indianapolis Colts

Juwann Winfree was originally a sixth round pick by the Denver Broncos in 2019. After appearing in just three games for the Broncos as a rookie, he was waived. The Packers gave Winfree a tryout and assigned him to their practice squad in 2020.
Winfree became known as a dynamic training camp and preseason wide receiver who could never really get his skills to translate to the NFL regular season. While appearing in 12 games for the Packers from 2020-2022, Winfree recorded just nine receptions for 75 yards.
If there was ever going to be a time for Winfree to crack the Packers wide receiver rotation, it would have been last season. In addition to veterans Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard, the Packers had three rookies: Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Samori Toure. Of these five receivers, Doubs and Cobb both missed significant time due to injuries. Despite the opportunity he had as a result of their absences, Winfree was not able to take advantage.
Following the season, the Packers opted not to sign Winfree to a futures contract, which made him a free agent. Now, Green Bay will enter the season with an incredibly young wide receiver room that consists of the three draft picks from last year and three more from this year’s draft: Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and Grant DuBose.
