During a third-and-10 situation in the third quarter of Sunday’s home game against the visiting Indianapolis Colts, Green Bay Packers quarterback Malik Willis decided to run the ball even though the instructions from the sidelines was to pass it.
Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Josh Mayers opens up about vomiting on the ball during win against the Indianapolis Colts
It was later revealed that the reason Willis was not able to sling the ball was because Packers center Josh Myers vomited on it.
“I tried to lean over. Dang, I’m going to have [to] apologize for that one,” Myers said, per Rob Demovsky of ESPN. “That was probably pretty gross.”
Packers head coach Mat LaFleur also shared a detailed story about what happened at that moment following Green Bay’s 16-10 win over the Colts.
“I asked Malik [Willis] why he didn’t throw the ball on third down, and he told me that Josh [Myers] threw up on the ball,” LaFleur shared.
“I was like, ‘That’s the first time I’ve ever heard that.’ Matter of fact, the official came over to me, Shawn [Hochuli] came over to me and said, ‘We saw your center throwing up on the ball, do you want us to take him out next time?’ I said, ‘Absolutely, please do that.’ Because you’re talking about a critical situation, and it’s third down, and I’ve never had a throw with vomit on a football. I think Malik probably didn’t appreciate that.”
The Packers can now just look back on it with smiles on their faces, as Green Bay was able to pass the test in Willis’ first start for his new team. Willis went 12-of-14 for 122 passing yards and a touchdown while also rushing six times for 41 yards.
With Jordan Love likely not ready yet to play in Week 3, Willis will find himself behind Myers again when the Packers play the Tennessee Titans on the road on September 22.
