Josh Myers received the Ed Block Courage Award yesterday, and the Green Bay Packers center couldn’t help but be moved to receive such recognition, given what he has been through in the past few months.
The 26-year-old Ohio State product reflected on his rollercoaster 2024 campaign, and he dedicated his latest achievement to his late father, who passed away due to lung cancer last July.
“I played a lot of games in there not healthy, and then just everything that happened with my dad earlier this year. It’s been a really hard year, and I appreciate (the award),” Myers said via Mike Spofford of Packers.com.
“It means more than anything else. I kind of view it the way when I was elected captain at Ohio State. I can remember vividly thinking this means more to me than basically any other honor I could’ve gotten. It feels a bit like that,” he added.
Besides his on-field contributions for the Green Bay Packers, Josh Myers is also recognized for his off-the-field efforts, including participating in a Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) event for families of fallen military members during Salute to Service week.
Josh Myers receives praise from Green Bay Packers’ Jordan Love for getting the Ed Block Courage Award
Josh Myers is a key piece to Green Bay’s offense which ranks fifth in rushing yards and second in fewest sacks allowed. The former no. 62 pick has started 54 of the Green Bay Packers’ last 55 games under center, including playoffs. According to quarterback Jordan Love, there is “no better person to get it” than Josh Myers.
“For him to be able to handle that adversity, and be able to show up here every day and be the pro that he is and still put in the work and not let that affect his work life, has been huge. I’ve been through definitely a similar situation, and it’s not easy. So for him to do that means a lot,” Love said about Myers.
“NFL center, that’s the quarterback of the O-line right there. He’s the one making all the calls and making sure those guys are always on point and know where they’re going. He is definitely a leader in that aspect,” he added.
