Before he went to the Green Bay Packers, running back Josh Jacobs went through drama near the end of his time with the Las Vegas Raiders. Jacobs was looking to secure an extension deal from Las Vegas, but the Raiders instead used their franchise tag option on the former Alabama Crimson Tide star tailback for the 2023 campaign. Jacobs did not attend most of the Raiders’ training camp before he agreed to and signed a one-year contract amounting to $11.8 million.
Instead of returning to the Raiders for the 2024 season, though, Jacobs opted to find work somewhere else. He simply did not feel respected by Las Vegas.
“Trust was missing then,” he said. “I wasn’t really mentally there, not happy to be there. Obviously, I loved my teammates so I was going to give everything I had for them, but I felt like I had been slapped in my face.”
Will Josh Jacobs have a big season ahead?
Last March, Jacobs decided to take his talents to the Packers, signing a four-year contract worth $48 million. Green Bay is about to find out whether the investment is all worth it, but at the very least, they have a clear top option on the ground after parting ways with Aaron Jones.
Jacobs led the league in rushing in 2022 with 1,653 yards on the ground and 12 touchdowns on 340 carries. In 2023, his final season with Las Vegas, he played in just 13 games and rushed for 805 yards and six touchdowns on 233 rushing attempts.
Jacobs will make his debut for the Packers on Sep. 6 versus the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil.
