The Green Bay Packers last offseason signed Josh Jacobs in free agency. On the same day, they signed Jacobs to a contract, they released Aaron Jones on the same day.
Jones decided to sign a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings last offseason. Now, Aaron Jones is a free agent. There is a chance that the Green Bay Packers could bring back Jones next season, but it remains to be seen. It will be intriguing to see who the number two running back behind Josh Jacobs will be.
Pro Football Network Has the Green Bay Packers Selecting RB Omarion Hampton From the North Carolina Tar Heels In the 2025 NFL Mock Draft As the Perfect RB2 For Josh Jacobs
In the latest NFL Mock Draft for the Pro Football Network, they created a seven-round mock draft. For the Green Bay Packers, they would have the 54th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft in the second round. With that second-round selection, Pro Football Network has Green Bay selecting running back Omarion Hampton for the North Carolina Tar Heels.
It would be intriguing to see the Packers select a running back in the second round. Pro Football Network said about this selection:
“The Packers added Josh Jacobs to the roster for some physical injection. Quadzilla is an unrestricted free agent, and Hampton is the 2025 NFL Draft class’s resident bowling ball running back.
You absolutely do not want to be the first guy to contact Hampton when he accelerates through a hole. His North-South burst is eye-popping, which is exactly what happens to linebackers when they meet him in the hole. Add in a bit of wiggle, some hilariously physical pass pro reps, and some impressive receiving ability out of the backfield and Hampton could become the dominant back in Green Bay sooner rather than later.”
One of the things that the Green Bay Packers were missing this season was a good number two running back behind Josh Jacobs. This season with the North Carolina Tar Heels, Omarion Hampton rushed for 1,660 yards on 281 carries and 15 touchdowns, along with averaging 5.9 yards per carry.
Hampton also caught 38 passes for 373 yards receiving and two touchdowns, along with averaging 9.8 yards per reception. Omarion Hampton is a very similar power running back to the way that Josh Jacobs runs. It would be a nice 1-2 punch for the Green Bay Packers.
Running Backs Who Were Injured Last Year
A.J. Dillon missed all of last season with an injury and rookie Marshawn Lloyd missed most of last season with an injury as well for the Packers. Dillon and Lloyd were competing to be the number two back behind Jacobs before last season started.
However, Emanuel Wilson and Chris Brooks served time as the number two running back this past season for Green Bay. They will need to figure out if Marshawn Lloyd will bounce back next year from injury. If Green Bay doesn’t feel like Lloyd can return greatly from the injuries, then drafting Omarion Hampton as the potential number two running back would not hurt at all.
