Green Bay Packers star running back Josh Jacobs was held out of practice on Thursday because of a groin injury. He was spotted with a yellow hat on Thursday in practice. Jacobs did miss some time last season with the Las Vegas Raiders due to injury.
Hopefully, this groin injury will not keep him sidelined for long. This was the first time in training camp that he was dealing with an injury issue. During the offseason programs, Jacobs was dealing with some hamstring issues then, but this is worth something to monitor moving forward.
He is projected to be the starting running back this season for the Packers. Jacobs only had 805 yards rushing a season ago with the Raiders after having 1,653 yards rushing in the previous season with Las Vegas.

Josh Jacobs was not the only Green Bay Packers player who was sidelined in practice. Edgerrin Cooper was held out because of a hip injury and Carrington Valentine was held out with a hamstring injury once again.
Green Bay Packers Running Back Marshawn Lloyd Had a Big Day At Practice With Josh Jacobs Sidelined

With Jacobs sidelined at Packers practice on Thursday, rookie running back Marshawn Lloyd was able to step up. He has been dealing with hip issues during training camp. Packers beat writer for USA Today Ryan Wood said about Lloyd in camp:
“By rule, I don’t evaluate running backs in camp. They aren’t being tackled. Kind of a big part of the job, breaking tackles. But MarShawn Lloyd just broke off a legitimate 50-yard run. Good burst to second level, and the rookie showed some home run speed. That was impressive.”
Lloyd was a third-round pick from the USC Trojans in the 2024 NFL Draft. He is for now the third running back on the Green Bay Packers depth chart. It will be interesting to see if he can dethrone A.J. Dillon for the backup spot behind Josh Jacobs before the start of the 2024 season. Marshawn Lloyd could get some reps on the first team with Jacobs sidelined.

Jacobs being injured and missing practice is unfortunately not something new for the Packers. They dealt with a lot of injuries last season. Key players like cornerback Jaire Alexander and wide receiver Christian Watson missed several games because of them.
If Josh Jacobs continues to miss practice, expect the rookie running back to make more explosive plays in camp. It won’t win him the starting job, but it could put A.J. Dillon on the ropes of being the backup running back this season.
