The Green Bay Packers are hard at work preparing for their season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. Jodan Love is eager to get the season started on the right foot and gave a challenge to the Super Bowl LVII participants to take them down.
However, a strong preseason performance doesn’t equate to a solid 2024 NFL campaign. One of the biggest question marks for the squad is their running game. With AJ Dillon out for most of the season and no clear RB1 to speak of, the team’s offense has the risk of turning one-dimensional.
One of the players Matt LaFleur hopes can turn things around is Josh Jacobs. The 26-year-old running back is joining the Packers after a successful stint with the Las Vegas Raiders, and fans are hopeful that he’ll be able to replicate his efforts with the squad.
Jacobs recently talked about an incident that happened during the offseason, and it’s one that raised plenty of eyebrows.
Josh Jacobs claims to receive a huge offer from the New York Giants before joining the Green Bay Packers
Jacobs talked about his free agency with The Athletic, where he discussed getting offers from multiple teams before settling with the Packers.
While his claims made for interesting reading, there’s one particular claim that caught people’s attention: he apparently turned down a bigger offer from the New York Giants to join the Packers.
Per Acme Packing Company’s Justis Mosqueda:
The Giants came on strong with an offer between $3 million and $4 million more than he eventually accepted. But Jacobs was turned off by the New York taxes, lifestyle, media and the artificial turf at MetLife Stadium.
Pompei, who first broke the news, have since revealed that a league source denied the Giants making any such claims to Jacobs.
While it’s curious why the Alabama product would make such a claim, it’s not hard to see why there were multiple teams interested in his services. He finished the 2023 campaign with 805 rushing yards and six touchdowns while only playing for 13 games. He could have easily broken the 1000-yard mark if he got enough touches.
Green Bay Packers fans will hope to see more of the same performance from Jacobs and the rest of the running back room as the team aims to make a serious bid for the Super Bowl.
