There remains a lot of uncertainty about the status of Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love. He’s not on the injured list but he’s also not practicing at the moment with his team heading into Week 3’s showdown versus the Tennessee Titans in Nashville.
The expectation for now is that Malik Willis will be starting another game for the Packers in place of Love, who hurt his knee during Week 1’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Sao Paulo.
So one of the questions for the Packers from their fans, including Rob Demovsky of ESPN, is whether Green Bay can secure another victory minus Love.
Can the Packers win again without QB Jordan Love? Considering they’re playing yet another offensively challenged AFC South team in the Titans next week, why not? While it sounded like Love was close to being able to play against the Colts, the Packers may want to buy another week of recovery now that they have at least one win without him. An 0-3 start would’ve been tough — but not impossible — to overcome and a loss might have forced the Packers to push Love to play. But at 1-1 early in a 17-game schedule, they can better afford to roll the dice with Malik Willis and another run-heavy game plan.
Green Bay Packers showed they can survive without Jordan Love
The Packers are already 1-0 in the 2024 NFL season without Love, as they took down the Indianapolis at Lambeau Field last Sunday, 16-10. But the manner with which the Packers approached that game was way different than what they would have done if Love was available. With Willis making his first start with the Packers, Green Bay opted to go run-heavy on their offense versus the Colts.
Willis passed the ball just 14 times while running back Josh Jacobs went off for 151 rushing yards on 32 carries. Love’s absence is a challenge to Matt LaFleur and the Packers’ think tank, but as their win in Week 2 helped prove, Green Bay can stay competitive with the right game plan with Willis.
