Not to be dramatic, but the Green Bay Packers’ decision to trade up in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft to select Jordan Love as the successor to Aaron Rodgers might very well be one of the defining moments of the franchise, for better or worse. Of course, that decision sent shockwaves through the fanbase and, in essence, destroyed the relationship between Rodgers and general manager Brian Gutekunst. But what if they had the chance to change history? Knowing what they know now, would the organization make the same decision? In a recent re-draft of the 2020 NFL Draft, Sports Illustrated’s Gilberto Manzano offers a shocking answer.
With the 26th Pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers Select… Jordan Love
Yes, you read that correctly. In his re-drafting of the 2020 NFL Draft, Manzano believes that the Packers would still trade up to select Love as the heir to Rodgers. He writes:
“Love not playing much the past three seasons takes away the benefit of knowing results while writing lengthy re-draft stories. But Love sticking with the Packers seems right. If Love is as good this season as Tagovailoa was last year, he definitely warrants being a first-round draft pick.”
Last season, Tua Tagovailoa had a 64.8% completion percentage and threw for 3,548 yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in 13 games. If Love has a similar year, most fans would be ecstatic with that kind of production. It would be very similar to Rodgers’ year last season, but with fewer turnovers. Also, keep in mind Tagovailoa dealt with concussions for a good portion of the season. If Love avoids those, he could have even better numbers.
