The Detroit Lions virtually shut the Green Bay Packers out in the first half, allowing them to just three points in the first two quarters of play. Detroit’s defense was on point in this one, and while they allowed Green Bay to score 17 points in the second half, they were still able to hold on to secure an impressive 34-20 win in Lambeau Field.
Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love Sounds Off on Defeat
Jordan Love played a key role in this loss. The Packers‘ QB1 completed just 23-of-36 passes for 246 yards. He did score one touchdown, but at the same time, he threw two interceptions while also allowing himself to take no less than five sacks.
After the game, Love shared his brutally honest reaction to the loss and the fact that his offensive line was not able to provide enough protection for him in this one:
“They’ve got a good D-line and we didn’t do good enough,” Love said, via Mike Spofford of the team website. “I think it takes all 11. It’s not just the O-line. It’s me not getting the ball out quick enough on some plays. Reads were open. It goes back to just not executing. It’s all offensively as a whole.”
Love is not pointing fingers here. in spite of the lack of protection, the young quarterback knows that he’s also equally to blame for Green Bay’s struggles on Thursday night.
Clearly, Jordan Love is not the type who throws his teammates under the bus.
Matt LaFleur Reacts to Botched Comeback Attempt
Much like they did last Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, Green Bay turned it around again in the second half against the Lions. Unfortunately for them, their effort just wasn’t enough and there wasn’t going to be any comeback this time around.
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur admits that his team was fortunate to mount a comeback against the Saints on Sunday. Slow starts are always a recipe for failure, and this was exactly the case against Detroit.
“Obviously we were in such a hole, and that’s two weeks in a row we put ourselves in a bad situation,” LaFleur said. “We were very fortunate four days ago or whatever to come out of it, and tonight against a really good team, it was an impossible hole to overcome.”
