The Green Bay Packers have to be happy where they are at right now before the start of training camp. This has been more of an eventful offseason for Green Bay. The Packers are more ahead of schedule at this time this year than where they were last year.
A season ago, they were transitioning from Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love as the full-time starting quarterback. This year, Love is already on the same page with all of the wide receivers they have. Not one wide receiver last season went over 1,000 yards receiving and it could very well change this season.
One of the things the Green Bay Packers will have to figure out during training camp is who will be the starting wide receivers this season. Green Bay has a lot of talent on the offensive side of the football.
Bleacher Report Mentions That the Green Bay Packers Need to Give Quarterback Jordan Love a Contract Extension Before the Start Of the 2024 Season
One of the biggest topics this offseason for the Green Bay Packers has been when will they give quarterback Jordan Love a new contract extension. After showing massive potential in his first full season as the starting quarterback, they need to pay him.
It will become a distraction if this is not taken care of before Week 1 of the 2024 NFL Season. Matt Holder of Bleacher Report said:
“Extend Jordan Love
This might seem a little too soon seeing as Love has only had one full season as a starter. However, he is entering a contract year and the quarterback market has exploded recently, driving up the price tag. At this rate, it would be in the Packers’ best interests to lock down the fourth-year pro before another signal-caller, such as Brock Purdy, gets paid.”
It is not insane that the Packers need to pay Love. What might be insane is the potential contract they are going to hand out to him. The latest quarterback to be paid was Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence received a five-year deal worth $275 million, and $200 million of it will be guaranteed.
It will also be interesting to see what Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers gets. Teams are signing quarterbacks to these big contract extensions because it is the most important position in the NFL. Jordan Love completed 64.2% of his passes for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions last season.
He was second in passing touchdowns. Only Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys had more touchdown passes than him with 36. Jordan Love is going to be paid like an elite quarterback once he gets his contract extension with the Green Bay Packers. Love will have to live up to the Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre days.
