The Green Bay Packers may have the most world championships of any NFL team, but the Kansas City Chiefs are the most recent team to win the Super Bowl. Patrick Mahomes, playing on a sprained ankle, won his second career Super Bowl MVP as he threw three touchdown passes and the Chiefs outlasted the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.
In just five seasons, Mahomes has already put together a resume that rivals most Hall of Fame quarterbacks. He has won two regular season MVP Awards, two Super Bowl MVP’s, was named Offensive Player of the Year once, and has played in the AFC Championship Game in each season of his career. Some have begun talking about Mahomes as one of the all-time greats in the NFL.
Green Bay Packers Legend John Kuhn Weighs in on the Debate
On his show “Nine 2 Noon,” hosted alongside Brian Butch on 97.3 The Game, John Kuhn explained why he believes Patrick Mahomes is the perfect combination of Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady:
“Listen. This is why Mahomes is a mix of Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady. Because he is able to take what the defense gives him. He is able to change his game plan and his strategy and the way he plays the game like chess. I mean, he dinked and dunked the majority of that football game, guys. He dinked and dunked it all the way down the field. That was Tom Brady against the Atlanta Falcons. That’s what that was, working your way down the field, getting yourself in position to get in the end zone when you got to the red zone.
“And yet he has the talent of Aaron Rodgers. So when you use the eye test, the eye test says he’s better than Brady, right? His ability to sustain drives and score touchdowns and be, you know, game situational perfect is similar more to Tom Brady than Aaron Rodgers.”
It’s a fairly good comparison. Brady, of course, is known for doing the right thing at the right time on his way to seven Super Bowl championships. Rodgers, on the other hand, is widely regarded as the most talented quarterback to ever throw a football. Could Mahomes eventually surpass them both? As Kuhn notes, he is still on the “front nine” of his career. It is certainly possible.
