Former Green Bay Packers fullback John Kuhn knows all about high-leverage plays and questionable calls by referees in big games. So, too, does Pro Football Hall of Famer Kurt Warner. Like all football fans, the two had very different opinions regarding the holding call in the last two minutes of the Super Bowl. As fans may remember, Philadelphia Eagles cornerback James Bradberry was flagged for grabbing the jersey of Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster. While Bradberry admitted after the game that it was, indeed, a hold, the NFL and referees have come under fire for allowing what has been viewed as a “ticky-tack” call to determine what was otherwise an incredible game.
Kurt Warner Posed a Question on Twitter
One person who agreed with the call and was vocal against the criticism of the NFL and referees was Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner. Warner, of course, played in Super Bowls with the St. Louis Rams and Arizona Cardinals. He also had some high-octane playoff matchups against the Green Bay Packers. Warner took to Twitter to continue the debate over the call.
I love the “you can’t call that at that moment” argument if it’s not a blatant penalty… what if someone just slightly jumped offsides in biggest moment should they call it? Or an OLmen barely moved? We all know the answer so why does it change on other calls? #SeriousQuestion

Warner’s stance on the issue is clear: it was a penalty, so the referees were right to throw the flag.
Former Green Bay Packers Fullback John Kuhn Responded
To answer Warner’s question, John Kuhn quote-tweeted the original question with one of his own, referencing the Packers and Cardinals’ intense 2009 playoff game. What followed was a bit of a back-and-forth between the two former competitors:
Well then, did Michael Adams hit Rodgers in the head 09 Wild Card? https://t.co/pR2ip0EXen

Ok so I admit yesterday’s call was correct and you are admitting 2009 wild card no call was wrong?!

John Kuhn Discussed His Twitter Spar with Kurt Warner on “Nine 2 Noon”
As many are aware, John Kuhn is one of the co-hosts of “Nine 2 Noon” on 97.3 The Game in Milwaukee. On Thursday’s show, he discussed his interaction with Kurt Warner:
“I got in a little Twitter beef with Kurt Warner. Kurt Warner was saying, ‘For everyone saying call it, or saw it, what if you partially jump offsides? What if you slightly do this? What if you slightly do that?’ And I just reminded him, ‘What if you slightly hit a quarterback in the head and grab his facemask on a game-clinching play that turns into a fumble going back in the other direction?’
“Kurt Warner admitted that that was a penalty. Indirectly. And then I asked Michael Adams, the man who actually face masked Aaron Rodgers, the man who actually caused that fumble to end the 2009 Wild Card game. I actually asked him, ‘What did you think of the call at the end of the Super Bowl?’ And he said, ‘Terrible call to be called at that point in time. Was not called earlier in the game, should not have been called there.'”
This is a debate that likely will never go away. It was interesting, however, to get the perspectives of two former high-profile players. It also, perhaps, brought some vindication to Packers fans who still bemoan that 2009 playoff loss.
