Whoever the Green Bay Packers hire as their defensive line coach will be their third in the last three years. Last week, the Packers fired Jason Rebrovich after Green Bay’s pass rush woefully underperformed in 2024. Previously, he had been the team’s outside linebackers coach and pass rush specialist.
Last season was Rebrovich’s first as the Packers defensive line coach, though he did hold that title with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills at previous stops. He was promoted, though, after Green Bay parted ways with Jerry Montgomery following the 2023 season and the firing of defensive coordinator Joe Barry.
Montgomery spent this past year as the defensive line coach of the New England Patriots. With their change at head coach from Jerod Mayo to Mike Vrabel, though, he was on the market again. And it did not take him long to find a new job.
Former Green Bay Packers Defensive Line Coach Jerry Montgomery Has Been Hired by the Cincinnati Bengals
According to multiple reports, Montgomery has been hired as the defensive line coach for the Cincinnati Bengals. His hiring comes on the heels of the team signing Notre Dame defensive coordinator Al Golden to the same role with their organization.
While this will be Montgomery’s third team in three years, he does have a great reputation around the league. Prior to being fired by the Packers, he had been on the staff of both Mike McCarthy and Matt LaFleur for nine seasons.
Prior to arriving in Green Bay, Montgomery had been a defensive line coach for numerous college programs, including Wyoming, Michigan, Indiana, and Oklahoma.
For their part, the Packers have recently interviewed former Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Eric Washington for their defensive line coach job, though no decision has been made yet.
