The Green Bay Packers became the first team in the NFL this season to shutout their opponent, defeating the New Orleans Saints 34-0 on Monday Night Football. With their victory, Green Bay also punched their ticket to the NFL Playoffs for the second year in a row.
The dominating win saw Brandon McManus kick a 55-yard field goal as he continues his impressive season at the kicker position. It also saw nine Packers player record a rushing attempt, the most the franchise has seen carry the ball since 1953.
But it also saw second-year wide receiver Jayden Reed put his name in the team’s record book yet again. He had one carry for five yards and three receptions of 76 yards. His 81 total yards gave him 963 total yards on the season, a significant milestone with two games left to play.
Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Jayden Reed Makes Franchise History
Last season, playing in 16 games, Reed accumulated 912 all-purpose yards as a rookie. As fans may recall, his 64 receptions last season broke Sterling Sharpe’s franchise record for the most catches by a rookie.
This season, Reed has caught 52 passes for 803 yards and six touchdown. He has also rushed 17 times for 160 yards and another touchdown.
These totals through 15 games have helped him become the first wide receiver in the long 105-year history of the Packers organization to record 900+ all-purpose yards in each of his first two seasons:

Sharpe had 789 all-purpose yards in his stellar rookie season (791 receiving yards and -2 rushing yards). Hall of Fame wide receiver James Lofton had 831 all-purpose yards as a rookie (818 receiving yards and 13 rushing yards).
Billy Howton, who holds the Packers’ rookie record for receiving yards with 1,231, only had 463 all-purpose yards in his second season (he played only eight games).
With many fans wondering which of Green Bay’s young wide receivers will get a contract extension soon, it certainly appears as if Reed is well on his way to being one of the Packers’ top priorities when it comes to locking up their own players for the long-term.
