For the second year in a row, the Green Bay Packers took three wide receivers in the NFL Draft. Last season, Brian Gutekunst took Christian Watson in the second round, Romeo Doubs in the fourth, and Samori Toure in the seventh. This year, he traded down in the second round (twice) but was still able to nab Jayden Reed. Additionally, the Packers drafted Dontayvion Wicks in the fifth round and Grant DuBose in the seventh round. Of the three wide receivers taken this year, one of them was named a “favorite” selection by The Athletic.
Green Bay Packers Rookie Jayden Reed Named a “Favorite” Pick at the Wide Receiver Position

Two NFL writers at The Athletic, Diante Lee and Nick Baumgardner, put together a list of their favorite picks at each offensive and defensive position. They chose two wide receivers, as teams each have two starters at the position. The first one they chose as their favorite was Zay Flowers, who was drafted 22nd overall by the Baltimore Ravens. The second wide receiver they chose was Green Bay’s Jayden Reed:
“I love both Flowers and Reed for similar reasons. Reed, like Flowers, is small and simply does not care. He’s got legit breakaway speed and runs everything with a lot of explosion. There’s improvement needed, but he also blocks on the perimeter with an outstanding mindset.
“Putting Reed in Matt LaFleur’s offense gives me Amon-Ra St. Brown vibes.”
For those wondering, Amon Ra St. Brown had 90 receptions for 912 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie with the Detroit Lions in 2021. Last season, he had 106 receptions for 1,161 yards and six touchdowns while being named to the Pro Bowl.
If that is the kind of impact that Reed is going to bring to the Packers right away, Green Bay will arguably be even better in 2023 than they were in 2022.
