The Green Bay Packers selected three wide receivers in the 2023 NFL Draft, and the agent of one of them is in some really hot water. Boiling. According to Brooke Pryor of ESPN, second round draft pick Jayden Reed’s agent David Canter is under investigation for trying to bribe teams into drafting one of his clients. It should be noted that it is not clear whether or not Reed was the player in question. Canter and the firm which he works for, GSE Worldwide, represented 21 players in this year’s draft class.

“The NFL Players Association is investigating agent David Canter for allegedly trying to entice teams to select players he represents during the NFL draft last month, sources told ESPN on Friday.
“Canter’s attorney, Adam Kenner, released a statement to ESPN later Friday on behalf of his client that read: ‘We are aware that the NFLPA is looking into communications between my client and various management personnel of certain NFL teams. Mr. Canter did not engage in any wrongdoing and he is fully cooperating with the NFLPA. We expect the situation to be resolved shortly.’
Interestingly, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk had a source, a NFL general manager, who confirmed that he had been approached by Canter and offered a large sum of money to draft one of his clients:
“PFT has confirmed the existence of the allegations. One General Manager, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the situation, has informed PFT that he received such an offer. The G.M. in question is aware of at least two others who received a similar offer.
“Again, Canter denies any wrongdoing.”
Once again, it is imperative that it is made clear that Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed is not guilty of any wrongdoing, nor is he suspected to be a part of any nefarious dealings. This situation was allegedly created by Canter.
Regardless of how the situation plays out, this is a good reminder to all perspective athletes that they need to be careful about whom they trust. Agents control so much of their lives and demand a high percentage of their salary in order to do so.
This situation will not affect the Green Bay Packers 2023 season, but it sure will be interesting to see how it plays out.
