One of the most talked about players of the Green Bay Packers offseason has been two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander. Unfortunately, very little of that talk has been what one would consider positive. While undoubtedly one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL when healthy, Alexander has struggled to stay on the field due to numerous injuries and, well, conduct detrimental to the team.
When approached by reporters following Green Bay’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card Round of the NFL Playoffs, Alexander told them that he did not have anything good to say and that he was not sure he would be back with the Packers in 2025.
What Went Wrong Between Jaire Alexander and the Green Bay Packers?

The Packers made Alexander the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL (at the time) when they inked him to a four-year $84 million contract extension in 2022. And while he made his second career Pro Bowl and Second Team All-Pro that year, it has been downhill ever since.
Many fans may forget that, during the 2023 offseason, Alexander forfeited his workout bonus by skipping team activities until training camp. Then, he went on to miss 10 games, nine due to injury and one because the team suspended him for a culmination of events.
2024 was supposed to be better. Alexander showed up to offseason programs and the new defensive scheme had everyone, players included, excited.
But he missed 10 more games due to injury and appeared to have disagreed with the team on how to best treat the knee injury he suffered against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Over the last two years, out of a possible 34 games, Alexander has played 14. In the last four years, he has played 34 of 68 possible games.
The Green Bay Packers Are Trying to Trade Jaire Alexander

When asked about Alexander yesterday during the NFL Scouting Combine, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst was non-committal about bringing him back in 2025. “We’ll see, we’re working through that. We’ll work through that as we go along,” he said.
“We have to get him out there more. “There’s a lot of frustration on his part, he wants to be out there badly. Not being able to be out there at his best is frustrating to him. And obviously, we’re better with him, but we’ll see.”
When a player of Alexander’s caliber (and injury history) has two years left on his contract and a general manager will not fully commit to bringing him back the following year, one can assume the writing is on the wall.
And, apparently, it is. Ian Rapoport has broken the news that Green Bay is actively shopping Alexander:
Sources: The #Packers have had trade conversations centered around star CB Jaire Alexander and they are open to moving him for the right price.

And based on how the last few years have gone, Packers fans are not surprised:
There it is. Not unexpected at all. We’ll see if GB gets anything in return. Likely has played his last down as a Packer. https://t.co/v9N2BEbzc3

“Moving him for the right price” thank you Gute. All that cutting nonsense is bad process. You want him? Show us your best offer https://t.co/Hj7iKEW1r1

I knew it was going to happen but it still stings a little. https://t.co/qJDYO8cEMX

One has to imagine that there is no coming back from actively trying to trade Alexander. If Green Bay does not get any offers they deem acceptable, they will likely just release him. However, trading him would give them the benefit of ensuring he does not land with a division rival.
