Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander will be one of the starting cornerbacks this season on the roster. Alexander missed most of last season with injuries and only appeared in seven games. He recorded 27 tackles, forced one fumble, didn’t have a single interception, and had five pass deflections.
Alexander is 27 years old and will be under contract for a couple of more seasons with the Packers. They need him to stay healthy at cornerback this season because they are very thin at the position.
Jaire Alexander’s running mate as of now will be Eric Stokes, but second-year player Carrington Valentine can very well steal the starting job from Stokes. Alexander was a first-round pick from Louisville in the 2018 NFL Draft.
CBS Sports Pete Prisco Has Green Bay Packers Cornerback Jaire Alexander Ranked 64th In His Top 100 Players Entering the 2024 NFL Season
Despite missing 10 games last season with the Packers, Prisco believes that Alexander is still one of the Top 100 players in the NFL. He is ranked as the 64th-best player in the NFL entering the 2024 season. A season ago, Alexander was ranked 21st by CBS Sports.
Pete Prisco said about him:
“Injuries are the only thing that keep holding him back. He needs to stay on the field because when he does he can lock up any receiver in the league. The talent is certainly there to be a top-tier corner year in and year out.”
If Alexander were to get hurt again this season for the Packers, they would have some interesting decisions to make after the 2024 season. They would need other cornerbacks on the roster to step up. Green Bay did not do enough this offseason to address the position.
The only move the Packers made was drafting Kalen King from Penn State in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Green Bay needs Jaire Alexander because the NFC North has a ton of talent at the wide receiver position.
The Minnesota Vikings’ top wide receiver is Justin Jefferson, the Detroit Lions’ top wide receiver is Amon-Ra. St. Brown, and the Chicago Bears’ top wide receiver is Keenan Allen. All of those wide receivers are capable of going over 100 yards every week. Jaire Alexander is capable of shutting them down when guarding them.
The Green Bay Packers will go from a 3-4 scheme to a 4-3 scheme this season. It’s a good thing that Alexander is getting the respect he deserves from CBS Sports because he could have easily missed the Top 100 with all of the injuries he had a season ago.
