The Green Bay Packers for now have not traded or released cornerback Jaire Alexander. The expectation for now is that Alexander will be on the Packers 2025 NFL roster, but a lot can change between now and then.

Alexander has been injury riddled for the last two seasons. If the Packers decide to keep him, he will be the number one cornerback. If not, then Nate Hobbs could be the top cornerback on Green Bay’s roster. One team that could make a play for Alexander if traded or released is the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers are a team that’s trying to take another leap in the NFL.
ESPN Thinks Green Bay Packers Jaire Alexander Could Be Perfect Trade Destination For the Los Angeles Chargers

ESPN’s Matt Bowen wrote about top trade fits and free agent fits for different players. For the Packers star cornerback, Bowen thinks that the best place for Alexander to be in 2025 is the Los Angeles Chargers in a trade. Bowen said,
“The Chargers signed Donte Jackson to a two-year deal and Benjamin St-Juste to a one-year contract this offseason. However, if Alexander is available in a trade, he would be seen as an upgrade in Jesse Minter’s defensive system. The Chargers are zone heavy, playing both single-high Cover 3 and split-safety schemes. Alexander has the play instincts and foot quickness to match routes, and his transition speed allows him to make plays on the ball. Alexander has intercepted 12 passes and broken up 57 in his career.”
With Minter as the defensive coordinator under head coach Jim Harbaugh in year one, Los Angeles had one of the top defenses in the NFL after having one of the worst defenses in the NFL during the 2023 season. Alexander would provide a different element to the Chargers defense if he were to stay healthy.
During the 2024 season with Green Bay, he recorded 16 tackles, one fumble recovery, two interceptions, one touchdown, and seven pass deflections. The 28-year-old cornerback could wind up staying on the roster for the 2025 NFL season. Alexander would have been released or traded by now, if Green Bay did want him back for next season.
