Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander will not be playing on Sunday night against the Seattle Seahawks. Alexander has had injury issues over the last couple of seasons. He has not played since 11/17 against the Chicago Bears.
With Alexander not being available again this week, it makes people wonder if this will be his final season with Green Bay. He has recorded 16 tackles, two interceptions, one touchdown, and seven pass deflections this season when on the field.
Rob Reischel of Forbes.com Thinks That the Green Bay Packers Need To Move Off Of Jaire Alexander After the Season Ends
Rob Reischel of forbes.com wrote about why the Packers need to move off of the former Louisville Cardinals cornerback after the 2024 season ends. Resichel said:
“There’s nothing the Packers can do with their Alexander problem in 2024. They’re stuck with him, so they’ll cross their fingers and hope he can return at some point.
Green Bay can make a clean break from Alexander this offseason, though. And it would border on irresponsible for the Packers to count on him in 2025 — and beyond.
Green Bay would save $6.8 million against the cap this offseason by releasing Alexander. The Packers should also be flush with salary cap room to sign one of the top corners on the market.
Most projections have the 2025 salary cap in the range of $270 million. According to Spotrac.com, Green Bay’s total cap allocations in 2025 are approximately $226.2 million, and that includes Alexander’s contract. The Packers also have $16.3 million of available cap space this year they can carry into 2025.”
Green Bay could very well sign cornerbacks in free agency during the offseason. Rob Reischel also added:
“Right now, though, the process isn’t working. It hasn’t worked in nearly four years.
And when the offseason arrives, Green Bay needs to end the Alexander-era.”
There is no question that they could very well draft a cornerback as well in the 2025 NFL Draft. It will be interesting to see what the Green Bay Packers decide to do with Jaire Alexander this offseason.
Eric Stokes Fifth-Year Option Declined
Another thing to watch for outside of Alexander is cornerback Eric Stokes. The Packers declined his fifth-year option and it is very possible that Green Bay will not re-sign Stokes after the 2024 season also.
Despite being 9-4 this season, the Green Bay Packers need an overhaul of the cornerback position once the 2024 NFL season ends. Green Bay needs more athletes in the secondary.
