A former Green Bay Packers defensive lineman has taken a challenging route to get back into the NFL. There are tough battles every season for a roster spot in the competitive league. The Packers have seen a lot of roster turnover on the defensive line themselves this offseason with the departure of Dean Lowry and Jarran Reed. Those players signed with other NFL teams in free agency. Jack Heflin had to fight his way back into the NFL by playing in the XFL this season.

According to a report by Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, the New Orleans Saints have signed Heflin.

Another XFL alum is back in the NFL: Source says the #Saints are signing Jack Heflin, the former #Packers and #Giants DL who was with the Houston Roughnecks.

Heflin played for the Houston Roughnecks this season. He recorded 25 total tackles and one sack. Those numbers help earn Heflin All-XFL Team honors for the 2023 season.

Heflin was an undrafted free agent initially signed by the Packers in 2021. He made the opening day roster for the Packers that season and spent two years in Green Bay. Heflin appeared in four games for the Packers. He recorded one combined tackle on defense in his 17 snaps. Heflin also contributed to the Packers’ special teams unit. He spent time on the New York Giants practice squad in 2022.

Heflin played four years at Northern Illinois and one season at Iowa. He registered 93 total tackles and ten sacks in college.
