The Green Bay Packers rookie minicamp is coming up soon and the team is filling out the invite list. This is a time for undrafted free agents to get a chance to show what they have. The Packers have extended an invite from Brett Favre‘s alma mater. Southern Mississippi punter Mason Hunt has been invited to the Packers’ rookie camp.

Green Bay Packers Invite Mason Hunt To Rookie Camp
It’s easy to see why the Packers invited Hunt to camp. Punters never get the recognition but a closer look shows how good he was for Southern Mississippi. In 2021-22 he averaged over 40 yards per punt and pinned a career-best 25 punts inside the 20-yard line in 2022. Pat O’Donnell showed the Packers last season what a great punter can do for a defense. Opponents were constantly backed up in their own territory. The Packers may be looking to see if they can find the next great punter.

Special Teams Improvement
It is safe to say that the best hire for the Packers in the past decade was Rich Bisaccia. While the special teams unit still had its struggles, it was light years ahead of where the unit was last season. If they can show more improvement, the Packers might have a top-10 unit. Keisean Nixon is back with rookie wide receiver Jayden Reed also has experience returning kicks and punts. The wild card is the kicker position. Mason Crosby is most likely done as the Packers took Anders Carlson in the draft. If the kicking game can get figured out, the unit should be in good shape.
Mason Hunt is a player to watch as the Green Bay Packers hold their rookie camp. Could he usurp O’Donnell as the starter?
