The Green Bay Packers are entering a reloading year in 2023. This is not to say they will be terrible, but it will be a year of growth for the team’s young players. This will include the 2023 NFL Draft class. Of course, the big question is what player or what position will the Green Bay target in the first round. In his recent mailbag article on The Athletic, Packers insider Matt Schneidman revealed the draft prospect that he likes best for Green Bay this year.
Matt Schneidman Wants the Green Bay Packers to Draft Wide Receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba

College Football Rose Bowl
Jaxon Smith-Njigba is widely considered to be the best wide receiver in the NFL Draft this year. In fact, many believe he is the only one worthy of being taken in the first round. Many Packers fans strongly desire for the team to take Smith-Njigba if he falls to pick 15, and it sounds like Schneidman is one of them:
“I have to go with Ohio State wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba. As a reporter, you want intrigue and relevancy with the team you cover. Drafting a wide receiver in the first round in the first post-Rodgers draft after not doing so during his time in Green Bay? A trio of Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs and Smith-Njigba for Love? Now that’s intrigue.
“It’s possible if he’s still on the clock. The Packers need a wide receiver. They need a slot receiver. LaFleur has emphasized how important it is to surround Love with as many resources as possible to succeed. Smith-Njigba would certainly fit that criterion.”
As ATBNetwork’s Brian Maafi notes in the podcast at the beginning of this article, the biggest knock against Smith-Njigba for the Packers is that his arms are shorter than those of the wide receivers they typically draft. That being said, this is not a typical year. If there was ever a time to take the best wide receiver in the NFL Draft, this would be it.
