Green Bay Packers Predicted to Trade for Disgruntled Steelers Wide Receiver

The Green Bay Packers are almost certainly going to be adding a wide receiver (or two) to their roster throughout the course of 2025 NFL offseason. While they may select one in the upcoming draft, the general feeling around the NFL is that they are also looking to add a veteran, whether it be in free agency or via trade.

Recently, Green Bay has been linked to a potential trade with the Seattle Seahawks for two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf. Prior to those rumors, the Packers had been linked to several other veteran pass catchers still on other teams. These include both Tee Higgins and Davante Adams.

This all being said, Higgins is likely going to get the franchise tag placed on him by the Cincinnati Bengals, and Adams may choose to follow Aaron Rodgers wherever he goes if he does not get traded first, and very few (if any) NFL teams will want to trade from Adams’ contract.

NFL Insider Lists the Green Bay Packers as a Potential Trade Destination for Pittsburgh Steelers Wide Receiver George Pickens

Another wide receiver that could potentially be on the market is Pittsburgh Steelers pass catcher George Pickens. Adam Rank of NFL.com believes that adding Pickens to the offense as a top weapon for Jordan Love would be a best-case scenario for both Green Bay and the disgruntled wide receiver:

” Pickens has been inconsistent, but the Steelers have also trotted out a wide assortment of quarterbacks during his first three seasons in the NFL. Having him as the top target for, say, Jordan Love would be huge for Matt LaFleur‘s Packers offense.

“The Steelers also get a chance to avoid an uncomfortable conversation with Pickens when the 2022 second-round pick’s contract is up at the end of the 2025 season. And let’s be completely honest, the Steelers have done a great job over the last few decades of moving on from receivers before issues arise, financial or otherwise.”

Rank makes a valid point that Pickens put up pretty exceptional numbers in 2023 considering that his quarterbacks were all career backups. That year, he had 63 receptions for 1,140 yards and five touchdowns while leading the NFL with 18.1 yards per reception. Pairing him with a quarterback as talented as Love would only increase his productivity.

That being said, Pickens has made it known that he is not happy with his role and has not always been the consummate team player. Perhaps a change of scenery would change that about him, but the Packers already have one wide receiver that has pulled that stunt in Romeo Doubs. One can hardly believe that they would want two.

There is also the question of how much Green Bay would have to give up in a trade to get Pickens. He is entering the final year of his rookie contract, so his cap hit would not be hard to absorb. There is, however, no guarantee that he would sign an extension. The Steelers’ asking price may be higher than the Packers want to meet due to the amount of unknowns.
