The Green Bay Packers have several players that are unrestricted free agents this offseason. Some of these players will be highly coveted by various teams while others will be priority targets of the Packers themselves. Still others may be on the market for a while before finding a new team, returning to Green Bay, or retiring. One of them, however, has been named by Bleacher Report as one that teams should avoid spending big money on.
Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Allen Lazard Is Top Talent in a Weak Free Agent Class

To be clear, this is not a knock on Allen Lazard. He is a good wide receiver that can help teams in both the pass and run games. That being said, he is not a number one wide receiver. The Packers attempted to have Lazard fill that role left empty by Davante Adams. While Lazard had a solid season with 60 receptions, 788 yards, and six touchdowns, it was a far cry from the production generated by other number one wide receivers throughout the NFL.
In his article on Bleacher Report, writer Gary Davenport identified eight free agents that teams should avoid spending a lot of money on. Lazard ended up third on his list:
“It’s a rough year to be in the market for wide receiver help in free agency. This year’s class is neither especially deep nor especially talented, with no high-end talents available.
“That may be bad news for NFL teams looking to bolster their passing-game weaponry, but it could be good news for wideouts like Green Bay’s Allen Lazard and New England’s Jakobi Meyers. Teams still have holes to fill and money to spend, and Lazard and Meyers are the headliners of this year’s free-agent wideout crop.
“The problem is that dearth of talent is going to force teams to reach. Clubs will likely talk themselves into believing that Lazard can be more than a complementary piece. And although he had a career-best season in 2022, it became painfully evident last year that Lazard just isn’t that sort of player.”
While the Packers may yet bring Lazard back, it will have to be at a team-friendly price. It is unknown whether or not he would be agreeable to that, though he has stated that he believes he played his last game in Green Bay. With so many teams in need of a wide receiver, it is entirely possible that one of them will overpay to get him.
