The fate of former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy with the Dallas Cowboys is in jeopardy when no substantive extension talks have taken place. His tenure with the Cowboys could likely come to an end.
In his five years with the Dallas Cowboys, he made the playoffs three times and had two losing seasons. The Cowboys will be doing this to themselves if they drag their feet on the Mike McCarthy situation.
Mike McCarthy’s contract with Dallas
McCarthy’s contract expires on Jan. 14th. Dallas has until then to re-sign McCarthy before he becomes a Free Agent and signs elsewhere.
By the time the Cowboys finally hired McCarthy, he was able to interview with the two other teams who had moved on from their head coaches that same cycle. All this was while the Cowboys were dragging their feet on Jason Garrett. Then they did a fraction of the work and acted quickly themselves.
McCarthy’s contributions to Dallas
Following a disappointing season—Dallas did not record a.50% percentage point average for the first time since 2020—speculation began to build about Mike McCarthy’s future. Hired to mold the team into a consistent contender and achieve success in the playoffs, McCarthy has had three 12-5 seasons but only one win in five years in the playoffs weighs against him.
Mike McCarthy has a .610 career win percentage, and the Cowboys have had top five offenses ever since he arrived. Not to mention the insanely successful tenure in Green Bay. Playoff woes are definitely there, but they get there at a pretty high clip.
