The Green Bay Packers had a significant 2023 NFL Draft. They loaded up on weapons for Jordan Love, while also addressing the defensive line in the first round. Following the draft and the Aaron Rodgers trade, this Green Bay Packers team is significantly younger than it was just one year ago. Brian Gutekunst talked to the media in the days following the draft and gave a pretty significant announcement regarding what he expects of the roster going forward.
Green Bay Packers GM Brian Gutekunst Gives Significant Announcement After 2023 NFL Draft
In preparation for Jordan Love’s first year as a full-time starter, the Green Bay Packers decided to address two of their issues in the draft: tight end and wide receiver depth. When asked about the decision, GM Brian Gutekunst had this to say, per ESPN:
“That’s a little bit of the idea, right? I mean I think that’s important for those guys to grow together… We took some guys last year that I think have really did a nice job in their first year; we’re excited for their growth. So now I think we have a good nucleus of guys, pass-catchers to be able to grow with the quarterback. I think that’s important, and we’ll see how it goes.”
Gutekunst’s comments seem to indicate that the Green Bay Packers are more than happy with their current core of players around Jordan Love. After a rough start to his NFL career, Christian Watson has lived up to his second round pedigree. Watson absolutely exploded during the second half of the season. Romeo Doubs continues to outperform the expectations set for a fourth-rounder. If their new additions work well, the Packers could still challenge for the NFC North crown. When Packers fans saw these comments, they took to social media:
Brian Gutekunst is considered a top 10 GM in this league, not making the sexy picks doesn't get you fired.

Yea I can't get behind it and I'm a major critic of Brian Gutekunst. I didn't think there was much of a drop off between Jayden Reed and JSN, though JSN is probably more pro-ready, there's nothing to suggest Reed also cannot be that player out the gate.
