The Green Bay Packers are going to look a lot different in 2023. Their franchise-altering off-season mainly came in the form of the massive Aaron Rodgers trade. The Green Bay Packers and New York Jets finalized their trade for Aaron Rodgers just days before the 2023 NFL Draft. The fallout from that has been ongoing before and after the trade went down. Allen Lazard, Nathaniel Hackett, Randall Cobb, and Billy Turner have all made their way to the Jets this off-season. There will be one more player leaving the Packers this off-season.
Green Bay Packers Fans React To TE Marcedes Lewis Not Returning To The Team
According to a report by Bill Huber with Sports Illustrated, the Packers will not re-sign Lewis this offseason:
“After drafting two tight ends in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers will not be re-signing veteran Marcedes Lewis, a source told Packer Central on Sunday night.
Without Lewis, a revered leader and still one of the best run blockers at the position, the Packers will be incredibly young on offense.”
Jordan Siegler of Wisconsin Sports Heroics went on to say:
The Packers drafted Luke Musgrave in the second round and Tucker Kraft in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. It appears those two rookies will be tasked with replacing Robert Tonyan, who signed with the Chicago Bears this offseason, and Lewis.
Lewis will be hard for the Packers to replace. He was a true blocking tight end and leader for the team. Lewis would have made a great teacher for Musgrave and Kraft. But the Packers must be good stewards of their bank account this offseason.
When Green Bay Packers fans hear that the team was moving on from the veteran tight end, they reacted on social media in a big way:
Sure loved having him in Green Bay! I wish him nothing but the best in his future.
