The Green Bay Packers have had a busy off-season so far. It has certainly been headlined by the massive Aaron Rodgers trade that sent him to play for the New York Jets. That being said, the team is now focused on the 2023 season and beyond. Today there was news out of Green Bay that sent shockwaves throughout all of Packer Nation.
Green Bay Packers Fans React To Jordan Love Extension
The biggest news today was Jordan Love’s contract extension that DID NOT come in the form of a fifth-year option. According to Adan Schefter with ESPN, the Packers agreed to terms with Love on a one-year deal worth up to $22.5 million. $13.5 of that will be fully guaranteed. The contract will allow Love to make more money in 2024 with incentives than he would have if he had signed the fifth-year option.
It would appear Love would make less money if he didn’t hit those incentives. This was a huge for the Green Bay Packers and Jordan Love. It could very well result in a win-win for both sides. When Packers fans saw this news, they went wild on social meida:
that’s my qb.

Smart by Packers. 👍
If he stinks they only eat $13.5M instead of the full $20.5M

To go further into detail, Robin Adams mentioned:
While the new contract only guarantees $13.5 million in 2024, it also gives Love the opportunity to make more money than his fifth year option was worth. As mentioned previously, he can make up to $22.5 million on this deal in 2024 by playing well. The opportunity to make more is a motivating factor that can push him to succeed even more. At the end of the day, Love gets the fifth year commitment from the Packers, which is what he would have wanted anyway.
It is important to note that this year, 2023, Love will be playing on the “final year” of his rookie contract. As far as we know, this new contract does not influence his salary or cap hit for this season.
