The Green Bay Packers and New York Jets will be intertwined for the entire 2023 season whether fans like it or not. In fact, as long as Aaron Rodgers is in New York, the two teams will be compared side by side. This off-season has seen multiple former Packers join the New York Jets. Aaron Rodgers, Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, and Billy Turner have all gone out east. Not to mention offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. However, it looks like there’s one free agent who won’t be joining the New York Jets.
Free Agent Tight End Marcedes Lewis Will Not Be Joining The New York Jets
Per Robin Adams, Co-Owner of Wisconsin Sports Heroics:
Marcedes Lewis signed with the Packers in 2019 and has been one of the most dependable players on the offense. While he did not put up big receiving numbers, he was considered a bonus offensive lineman due to his prowess in both run and pass blocking. Now Lewis is an unrestricted free agent, and despite Rodgers’ desire for him to come with him to New York, he does not seem interested. Justis Mosqueda of Acme Packing Company wrote:
“From what I’ve been told by sources, Lewis, the one player that Gutekunst didn’t get asked about in his post-draft presser, is open to returning to the Packers this year — or at least was before the draft — and doesn’t seem interested in joining Aaron Rodgers in New York. The reason isn’t a personal rift with Rodgers, but the tax rate in New York/New Jersey. This is why reported interest from the Las Vegas Raiders, who play in an income-tax-less Nevada, is significant.”
Lewis hasn’t officially signed anywhere yet, however, he clearly will play in Green Bay before he plays in New York. The Raiders remain an option for Lewis, but he certainly isn’t ruling out a reunion with the Green Bay Packers. If the Raiders and Packers offer Lewis similar contracts, it would be hard to imagine him not returning to the Green and Gold. When Packers fans heard the news that Lewis would not be joining the Jets, they praised the decision on social media:
It could be beneficial for the #Packers to sign a veteran wide receiver. It’s undeniably beneficial to bring back Marcedes Lewis to mentor the two rookies.

Marcedes lewis has said he LOVES MLF and that it would be him that would bring him back for another season. He’s also said playing for the NYJ is off the table simply for tax reasons. (Very fair, he’s getting a vet minimum screw NYC)

Jury is still out on Marcedes Lewis
