The Green Bay Packers decided to fire Joe Barry as defensive coordinator on Wednesday. This does not come as a surprise that this news happened. It felt a little later than when it should have happened. Head coach Matt LaFleur was asked about earlier in the NFL season about Barry.
LaFleur had his back then, but he knew he had to move in a different direction with this defense. The Packers need to get the next hire as defensive coordinator right or it is going to look bad on LaFleur.
They can’t afford to let Jordan Love’s prime go to waste. Love has the potential to be a really good quarterback for years to come in this league and the offense will need better defense.
The defense could not stop the run this season and it showed in the NFC Divisional Round in the loss to the San Francisco 49ers, 24-21. One of the key emphases in the offseason is to find a defensive coordinator who knows his stuff and also gets better defensive personnel.
Green Bay Packers Fans Thrilled They Fired Joe Barry As Defensive Coordinator
Green Bay fans have been hoping for a long time that they were going to fire Barry at some point. They are thrilled that they don’t have to deal with him being the defensive coordinator during the 2024 season. Here is how some of the fans responded to the news on Twitter:
Joe Barry is Bob Sanders on the flat circle timeline. Just need to find the next Dom Capers.
Capers was the head coach of the team Packers beat in NFC title game of previous SB run.
The script lands on…Lovie Smith.

Everyone is thrilled about this news but will see what direction head coach Matt LaFleur goes in for the defensive coordinator position. There will be some interesting names for the position when the interviews come out also.
