After starting the season on the wrong foot and with their star quarterback injured, it’s understandable that some Green Bay Pacckers fans were worried with how the first weeks of the season would play out.
There are plenty of reasons for fans to be concerned. The defense failed to stop the Philadelphia Eagles from running through them in Sao Paulo. While Jordan Love’s injury wouldn’t take a good chunk of the season, an unproven Malik Willis taking over his role under center was a hard pill to swallow for several fans.
Fortunately, Willis was able to put on a terrific display to lead the Packers to a 16-10 win against the Indianapolis Colts. The defense, while still far from perfect, was able to contain the Colts and put them on a better spot for the coming season.
While every Green Bay fan was happy that things turned out the way it did, there is a pocket of fans that decided to turn their passion for the game into something more meaningful.
Green Bay Packers fans held a fundraiser while watching the Week 2 game for a cause
Wakuesha is a city two hours away from Green Bay, but it’s a city of die-hard Packers fans whenever football season is on.
One fan decided to use his neighborhood’s passion for the game to raise funds for a worthwhile cause.
Per FOX6 Milwaukee’s Christian Van Zelst:
Rick Hanfler opens his home every year for a good time and an even better cause.
It’s $75 to eat, drink and watch the game. All that money, and whatever else is raised, goes to Children’s Wisconsin.
“This came out of like a 20-person party and now it is a 100-person party,” Hanfler said. “Over the five years now, we’re over $60,000.”
Last year the group raised more than $8,000. A donor doubled that, making it $17,000.
“We just appreciate the people and everyone is looking after taking care of the children,” said Scott Helland, who helps with the fundraiser.
It’s a nice gesture for the city’s Packers fans that they can raise such amounts for charity. Hopefully, more fans would join them and raise money for other meaningful causes.
Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers will do everything to win more games and make their fans happy.
