The Green Bay Packers have announced a new president to succeed Mark Murphy just one year from now. In Mark Murphy’s 16-year run as Packers president, the Packers sported a great 162-95-2 record along with a Super Bowl ring in 2010. After an impressive run as president, his stay will end after the 2024-25 season putting Murphy on the clock to pad his resume. The resume is a hard one to top for any executive, but when looking deeper at Ed Policy, he may be the perfect guy for the job.

Ed Policy named next Green Bay Packers Chairman, President and CEO.

Policy Served As Commissioner Of Arena Football League Before Packers Hiring

Before his hiring as the Green Bay Packers Vice President in 2012, Ed Policy stepped into an advisor role for the Arena Football League in 2001. Uniquely, Policy was an interim commissioner after then-commissioner Carl David Baker after his step down towards the end of 2008. Policy only technically served as the commissioner for a single game in 2008 (the championship game). The league shortly shut down after filing for bankruptcy and rebooting over a year later.

Policy gained respect throughout the Green Bay Packers organization quickly, in 2018 he earned the title of Chief Operating Officer. Since being named COO, Policy has overseen the development of the Packers’ Titletown District, a coveted spot for the Packers and Wisconsin that has continued to boom under his overseeing.

Ed Policy Comes From Decorated Football Family

Policy’s football background did not start with arena football. His father was a long-time NFL executive himself, Carmen Policy. Carmen Policy became a member of the San Fransisco 49ers in 1981 as a counsel to the owner. Carmen Policy eventually worked his way into the President and CEO position, winning five Super Bowls in that role with the 9ers.

Carmen Policy eventually served the Cleveland Browns in the same role, before stepping down in 2004. He then bounced around roles like stadium development before retiring from the NFL in 2004. This background gives his son Ed Policy a leg up in NFL executive work, being surrounded by it since he was a child. His family history could show a sign of things to come for the Green Bay Packers’ success.
