The Green Bay Packers finally did it. Aaron Rodgers will officially play for the New York Jets in 2023. The trade became official more than one month after Rodgers declared his intentions to play for the Jets back in mid-March. According to multiple reports, a number of other teams had officially reached out about possibly acquiring Aaron Rodgers.
Whether it was news of other teams reaching out, or the NFL Draft coming up, the New York Jets and Green Bay Packers re-opened trade talks. Yesterday they got the deal done. Upon the trade getting done, the Green Bay Packers are heavily rumored to bring in an explosive weapon for their offense.
Green Bay Packers Expected To Target Jaxon Smith-Njigba After Aaron Rodgers Trade
The Aaron Rodgers trade moved the Green Bay Packers up from the 15th overall pick to the 13th overall pick. The Packers leapfrogged the New England Patriots who pick at #14 overall. The Patriots have a big need at the wide receiver position and are a very possible landing spot for Jaxon Smith-Njigba if he falls to them at 14.
The Green Bay Packers haven’t taken a wide receiver in the first round of the NFL draft since 2002. That year the Green Bay Packers selected Javon Walker with the 20th overall pick. Could that trend break nearly 20 years later? According to Tony Pauline of ProFootballNetwork.com (via Twitter), the Packers are hoping their leap from No. 15 to No. 13 will make it “easier to secure” Ohio State wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
