Brian Gutekunst spoke to reporters Tuesday morning regarding the immediate and long-term future of the Green Bay Packers.
Brian Gutekunst, just like every fan of the Green Bay Packers, has been awaiting Aaron Rodgers’ decision on his playing future. Rodgers recently ended his darkness retreat where he went to enter a better headspace before making any decision. Although there is no deadline, Rodgers has stated multiple times that he won’t hold the team hostage. The combine is set to start and free agency starts March 15th.
Brian Gutekunst told reporters that if the four-time MVP does return to the Green Bay Packers that he expects a restructuring of some kind.
Gutekunst said that if Rodgers does return to the team, he would expect the quarterback to restructure his deal to take pressure off the team's cap. He said he thought Rodgers would do what was best for the team.

The Packers pushed a load of money into 2023 in the last two seasons, and are now trying to push it further into the future. They have already restructured Aaron Jones, Jaire Alexander and Preston Smith. Brian Gutekunst mentioned on Tuesday that the team is also in talks to restructure David Bakhtiari and expects to have him back as well.
Gutekunst confirmed what PackersNews reported earlier this week that he is working with LT David Bakhtiari on restructuring his contract. He expects the deal to be done soon and Bakhtiari to be back on the team this year. Packers are also working on something with NT Kenny Clark.

Despite all of these restructures, the biggest domino is the All-Pro quarterback for the Green Bay Packers. Rodgers carries a $31.6 million cap hit in 2023. Rodgers mentioned a restructure on “The Pat McAfee Show” earlier this offseason and Brian Gutekunst has confirmed this. Should Rodgers return, he will likely restructure his deal to help the team’s cap situation.
