Green Bay Packers rookie safety Evan Williams was a fourth-round selection (111th overall pick) in the 2024 NFL Draft from the Oregon Ducks. During the start of training camp, Williams was making plays during practice and because of it, he earned a major role on the Packers defense during the 2024 NFL season.
Williams recorded 49 tackles, one forced fumble, one interception, and had three pass deflections during his rookie season. It is going to be interesting to see how Williams performs in his second season in the NFL under defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley.
Green Bay Packers Rookie Safety Evan Williams Praises Defensive Coordinator Jeff Hafley
On Tuesday, Mike Spofford of packers.com, who is also an editor for the website, wrote a story about the Green Bay Packers defensive plans for the 2025 NFL season. Many defensive players spoke about the plans for next season including Evan Williams. Williams was a big fan of Jeff Hafley and said:
“I’m a big fan of just everything he came with and really just the culture he set foot, as soon as he stepped into the door. He made it clear off the rip that he wanted us to play free, play physical and just play fast. I feel like my play style really fits into that mold. So yeah, you had a lot of guys that just came in and bought in immediately. I think that showed.”
The safeties were one of the strengths of this defense this season. Javon Bullard, Williams, and Xavier McKinney all played a huge role in Jeff Hafley’s defense this season. It will be interesting to see how the defense looks during the 2025 NFL season.
They will need to make adjustments on defense by trying to potentially find more pass rushers and cornerbacks. Hafley did a good job of replacing Joe Barry as defensive coordinator this season.
