The Green Bay Packers safety tandem of Evan Williams and Xavier McKinney has worked like magic through the first five games of the 2024 season. McKinney has five interceptions through the first five weeks of the season and Williams made some key breakups in the game, including one in the fourth quarter against the Los Angeles Rams.
Green Bay won the game over Los Angeles 24-19. The Packers improved to 3-2 on the season and the Rams dropped to 1-4. The Packers are looking to keep pace in a very tough NFC North division.
Green Bay Packers Safety Evan Williams Discusses the Crucial Play In the Fourth-Quarter
Williams is only a rookie in the NFL, but it feels like he has been in the league for years. Since the start of training camp, Evan Williams has tended to make plays at the right time. It was no different in the fourth quarter against the Los Angeles Rams.
After the game, he spoke with Matt Schneidman of The Athletic and discussed what occurred. Evan Williams said:
“They’d honestly run that quite a few times. I think I got a fourth-down stop on it in the red zone. Just a little follow route where tight end’s at three, they motion one down and just erase, trying to get the post player out of it and the tight end will run a little stutter and try to cross my face and I was in man on ’em both times. So yeah, I just kinda had a good feel for the route at the end of the game. They had run it so many times. I didn’t think he was gonna try to break out and try to make a long throw, so yeah, I was kinda just sitting on it. He broke back in, was able to get my hand in there, celebrated with the crowd.”
There was a very good crowd of Green Bay Packers fans that were in attendance at Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles, California. It felt like a home game for the Packers and once again the defense was aggressive.
Huge Game For Him
In the game against the Los Angeles Rams, Evan Williams recorded 10 tackles and it was a career and season-high for him. The safety group of Williams and Xavier McKinney is better than what they had a season ago.
This may not be the last time this season that he will have double-digit tackles in a single game. Williams will be tested once again next week against a high-powered Arizona Cardinals offense.
