The Green Bay Packers will have a lot of personnel decisions to make this offseason. After losing to the Philadelphia Eagles 22-10 in the first round of the NFL playoffs, there are still some holes on the roster that the Packers will need to fill.
Three of the biggest needs this offseason for the Green Bay Packers will be finding a number one wide receiver for Jordan Love, getting help at the cornerback position, and finding more help on the defensive line. General manager Brian Gutekunst will be busy making pivotal decisions this offseason for the franchise.
Green Bay Packers Will Probably Not Be Bringing Back Cornerback Eric Stokes For the 2025 NFL Season
There is no doubt that the cornerback position might get a total overhaul this NFL offseason for the Green Bay Packers. Lombardiavenue.com writer Luke Norris thinks that cornerback Eric Stokes will be one of five Packers on the 2024 roster who will definitely not be back next season. Norris said:
“The Packers obviously had high hopes for cornerback Eric Stokes when they drafted him out of Georgia with the 29th overall pick in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
And while the former Bulldog had a decent rookie season, racking up 55 tackles, 14 passes defended, and an interception, he’s failed to contribute much since then.
Injuries forced him to miss 22 games between the 2022 and 2023 campaigns, which naturally led Green Bay to decline the fifth-year option on his rookie contract.
And while Stokes appeared in every game for Green Bay this season, he was removed from the starting lineup roughly a third of the way through the year for Keisean Nixon. Cornerback was one of the weakest positions for the Packers in 2024, and Stokes’ less-than-average play didn’t help matters.”
Stokes this past season recorded 41 tackles and recorded no other key stats. This is probably one of the reasons why they are going to be moving on from the 25-year-old. He will be 26 years old on March 1. Eric Stokes did not go as planned for the Green Bay Packers.
Active Offseason Ahead
Last offseason, the Packers decided to overhaul the safety position through free agency and the NFL Draft. Expect the Green Bay Packers to do the same with the cornerback position this offseason through free agency, the NFL Draft, and possibly through trades as well.
Many were surprised when the Green Bay Packers did not address the cornerback position during the 2024 NFL offseason. This offseason will be different in regards to tackling the cornerback position and finding an upgrade from Eric Stokes before the 2025 NFL season begins.
