Green Bay Packers running back Emanuel Wilson made the 53-man roster a season ago as an undrafted free agent. This year, Wilson is trying to make the roster once again. He had a very good showing in a 23-10 win for the Packers over the Cleveland Browns on Saturday afternoon.
Emanuel Wilson led the Packers in rushing with 67 yards on 13 carries and a score. He scored on a five-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter for Green Bay. Wilson did not catch any passes out of the backfield.
Zach Kruse of packerswire.com said about Wilson’s preseason performance against the Cleveland Browns:
“Last year’s preseason rushing champ was impressive again. Wilson averaged 5.2 yards per carry, forced three missed tackles, scored a 5-yard touchdown and created a highlight play with a juke move on a 23-yard run.”
Green Bay Packers Emanuel Wilson Could Force AJ Dillon Off the 53-Man Roster
A season ago, Green Bay only kept three running backs on the roster. It was Aaron Jones, A.J. Dillon, and Emanuel Wilson coming out of camp. This year, it is undecided if the Packers will want to keep three or four running backs on the roster. If they want to keep all four, all of the running backs are safe.
If they only want to keep three on the roster, then it is going to be a battle between Emanuel Wilson and A.J. Dillon. Josh Jacobs will be the starting running back in Week 1 for Green Bay. Even though rookie Marshawn Lloyd has been dealing with some injury issues in training camp, his spot is safe because they have big plans for him. Lloyd was a third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of USC.
The final spot will be either Wilson or Dillon. Green Bay decided to re-sign Dillon on a one-year deal in the offseason. He only had two yards rushing on four carries against the Cleveland Browns. We will see how Emanuel Wilson and A.J. Dillon will perform for the rest of camp and also in the final two preseason games. Wilson has a great chance to dethrone Dillon if he continues to keep this up.
