“May Have Made Their Most Egregious Error Yet”: Green Bay Packers Receive Backlash For Not Signing Pass Rusher In Free Agency

The Green Bay Packers have a major need of a pass rusher this offseason. So far this season, they have stood on the sidelines not making many moves on the defensive line or any other positions for that matter.

Green Bay has let offensive lineman Josh Myers walk this offseason. Other than signing cornerback Nate Hobbs and bringing back kicker Brandon McManus, the Packers have not made a major splash this offseason. They also lost out on potentially trying to trade for DK Metcalf, Myles Garrett, or Maxx Crosby.

Sportingnews.com Writer Matthew Schmidt Thinks that the Green Bay Packers Should Have Signed Azeez Ojulari

New York Giants linebacker Azeez Ojulari smiles during a win over the Philadelphia Eagles, Jan. 7, 2024.

On Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles signed pass rusher Azeez Ojulari to a one-year deal worth $4 million. With Ojulari coming cheap, some Green Bay Packers are wondering why they couldn’t have made a cheap move like this to upgrade the pass rush.

Well, sportingnews.com writer Matthew Schmidt thinks the Packers should have signed Ojulari to upgrade the pass rush. Schmidt said,

“But on Monday, the Packers may have made their most egregious error yet, allowing edge rusher Azeez Ojulari to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles on one-year, $4 million contract.

Green Bay definitely needs another pass rusher, and Ojulari would have been a perfect fit. So why did the Packers not jump in on the 24-year-old if that were the price?

Ojulari has definitely had difficulty staying healthy, as he has played in a combined 29 games over the last three seasons. However, when he is on the field, he produces, as evidenced by the fact that he posted 28 tackles and six sacks in 11 games with the New York Giants in 2024. Back in his rookie campaign in 2021, he finished with 49 tackles and eight sacks.”

Last season with the New York Giants, Ojulari recorded 28 tackles, six sacks, one fumble recovery, and zero pass deflections. He is 24 years old and still has the potential to be very good if healthy. One of the reasons why Green Bay may not have signed him is because of his injury history.

Some Giants fans think that he will suddenly stay healthy for all 17 games. Ojulari would have helped the Packers’ pass rush for sure.
