Green Bay Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks is the fourth wide receiver on a team that has a bunch of talented wide receivers. Wicks is going to be very useful this season when Green Bay goes to a 4-wide set in offensive plays.
Some Packers fans think that Wicks is going to be a very good player. With injuries to Christian Watson last season, he was on the field quite a bit. Wicks caught 39 passes for 581 yards receiving and four touchdowns, along with averaging 14.9 yards per catch. He was also targeted 58 times.
Wicks was a fifth-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft from Virginia. His spot on the 53-man roster is safe, but it will be interesting to see how many snaps he will see during the regular season. Jayden Reed and Romeo Doubs are turning into the top two wide receivers in this offense.
Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Dontayvion Wicks Stood Out At Practice On Thursday
The Packers’ wide receiving core has made plays either good or bad this week leading up to Family Night on Saturday night. On Thursday, Wicks stole the show for the offense. This is an offense that is going to be very unpredictable in who will see the targets week in and week out.
Freddie Boston of lombardiavenue.com mentioned about his performance on Thursday:
“Dontayvion Wicks continues to do Dontayvion Wicks things. Romeo Doubs stole the headlines earlier in the week, but Wicks reminded everyone why many believe he could become the Packers’ best wide receiver.
Always open. We heard it throughout Wicks’ rookie season, and the same was true on Thursday.
“Dontayvion Wicks Show is back,” said Packers senior writer Wes Hodkiewicz. “Beautiful over the shoulder grab from Love in two minute to defense 15. Good for 27. Also had first catch of drive for 13.”
Andy Herman of the Pack-a-Day Podcast said that Wicks is “really hitting his stride.” The Love-to-Wicks connection is getting better by the day.”
Also on Thursday, Packers USA Today Writer Ryan Wood added about him:
“Hell of play from Jaire Alexander and Keisean Nixon, combining to tackle Dontayvion Wicks short of TD. #Packers were at the 1, and Wicks ran arrow out. Caught pass from Jordan Love short of goal line. Alexander and Nixon kept him out. Some shoving after. Good, competitive rep.”
He will continue to get reps for Green Bay in training camp. He may not be one of the starting wide receivers, but Wicks is going to be in the rotation this season. The former Virginia Cavaliers wide receiver would start if Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, or Romeo Doubs went down with an injury.
Wicks always finds a way to get open in this offense. Quarterback Jordan Love did his best last season when throwing to him.
