During the 2023 season, a serious youth movement overtook the Green Bay Packers. Some of the young players who played well a season ago are looking to take their game to another level in 2024. With a 9-8 record a season ago, this football team will have a higher ceiling this season.
The Detroit Lions won the NFC North last season. The Green Bay Packers are looking to win the NFC North crown once again and it has been a couple of years since they won it. Green Bay was one of the youngest teams in the NFL last season.
They will still be young at certain positions, but they will need to be contributors once again this NFL season. What the Packers can not do this season is take a step backward.
CBS Sports Writer Cody Benjamin Thinks That Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Dontayvion Wicks Could Be a Star This Season
CBS Sports Writer Cody Benjamin predicts one under-the-radar player for each NFC team who could be a star this season. For the Green Bay Packers, he chose second-year wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks. The reasoning that Benjamin gave was as follows:
“Insert basically any Packers wideout here, and you’d be justified. Quarterback Jordan Love is surrounded by young, mostly unknown but incredibly promising pass catchers. After averaging close to 15 yards per catch as a rookie, Wicks could prove to be his top big-play threat downfield.”
Wicks is currently the fourth wide receiver on the team. He is behind Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, and Romeo Doubs on the depth chart. A season ago, Dontayvion Wicks caught 39 passes for 581 yards receiving and four touchdowns, along with averaging 14.9 yards per catch. He was also targeted 58 times last season.
Wicks is a player who can burst onto the scene at any moment. If any of the three wide receivers get hurt, the door will open for him. He was very good at getting open last season. If all of the wide receivers are healthy, it will be interesting to see how often head coach Matt LaFleur will go with four-wide sets.

The Green Bay Packers do not have a true number-one wide receiver at the moment. Jayden Reed was the leading receiver on the team last season with 793 yards receiving. It would not be a surprise if Reed and Wicks were the top two wide receivers on the roster by the end of the 2024 season. It would be a surprise if no one got to 1,000 yards receiving this season.
