The Green Bay Packers are getting ready for their biggest matchup of the season to date. Week 18 will feature the Chicago Bears coming into Lambeau for a “win or go home” scenario for the Packers. A win means the Packers will start getting ready for the post-season. A loss means the Packers will join the Bears on the couch for the playoffs.
Days prior to the regular season finale, one report surfaced that indicated one all-pro could find a new home in the very near future.
The Green Bay Packers Could Lose Defensive All-Pro Amid Recent Report
Matt Schneidman of The Athletic posted his mailbag. One of the questions was what was going to happen to all-pro linebacker De’Vondre Campbell.
What happens with Jordan Love, AJ Dillon, De’Vondre Campbell, David Bakhtiari? — Mauricio J.
Love signs a four-year, $180 million extension. Dillon leaves in free agency. Campbell and Bakhtiari get cut.
His 10 starts this season have led to 67 tackles (42 solo), two tackles for loss, a fumble recovery, zero sacks, a quarterback hit, and one pass breakup.
It was in 2021 when Campbell earned All-Pro honors with 145 tackles, two interceptions, two sacks, six tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and five pass breakups. However, he missed three games last season with a knee injury and wasn’t nearly as effective, this season, his numbers have dropped even more.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Packers move on from Campbell after this season. It is worth noting, however, that Campbell is under contract through the 2026 season. His cap is $14M in 2024, $12.5M in 2025, and $12.5M in 2026.
The Packers’ top inside linebacker is without a doubt Quay Walker. During Campbell’s recovery from a neck injury, McDuffie, a sixth-round pick in 2021, has been playing well. The Packers might decide Campbell is expendable if they feel they can handle the two moving forward. Campbell will turn 31 next season and may be on the “back nine” of his career. To play devils advocate, can certainly be benefits of keeping an established veteran on your defense, however, that may not be what the Packers have mind.
