Many NFL fans are excited to see football return and fill their weekends with narratives that they will discuss for days. Green Bay Packers fans hope their team will finally be able to make an impressive run for the Super Bowl as Jordan Love continues to develop into a superstar quarterback.
However, the first game of the season would be anything but easy. The team’s first game will have them travel all the way to South America to face the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil.
While the event is a momentous occasion as it is the first time any NFL team would be playing in the continent, the team must still be focused on taking down a strong team like Philly.
However, it seems like things will become a bit easier for them as one key player won’t be joining their opponents in their trip south.
Devin White will not be available vs. the Green Bay Packers in Brazil
Devin White was supposed to become one of the obstacles for Love and the rest of the Packers offense.
The linebacker is expected to bring some solidity to an Eagles defense that faltered during the latter parts of the previous season.
However, CBS Philadelphia’s Tom Dougherty reported days before the game that the linebacker would be absent ahead of the Packers’ season opener. He also listed which players will take his place against Green Bay in Brazil:
Linebacker Devin White will miss the Philadelphia Eagles season opener Friday against the Green Bay Packers in Brazil with an ankle injury. The Eagles said Wednesday that White will not travel with the team to São Paulo.
With White out, the Eagles are expected to use Nakobe Dean as their starting MIKE linebacker. Free agent signee Zack Baun and rookie Jeremiah Trotter Jr. are also potentially in the mix.
White was going to become a huge threat if he were healthy enough to make the trip. He finished his final season in Tampa Bay with two interceptions for 36 yards, 2.5 sacks, and 49 solo tackles while only playing for 14 games.
With such a hole in Philly’s defense, Jordan Love and the rest of the Green Bay Packers can capitalize the weak link and start the season with a convincing win.
