The Green Bay Packers have several questions regarding their coaching staff of the 2026 NFL season. Of course, the biggest of these questions is when (or whether) head coach Matt LaFleur and the team will agree on a contract extension for next season. The two sides have been negotiating all week, though rumors state that the two sides are making progress.
Another big question is the future of defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. Undoubtedly, the Packers would love to him back in 2026, but he also has interviewed for six of the nine open head coaching positions around the NFL, and is the betting favorite to be the next head coach of the Miami Dolphins.
Finally, it appears that another coach of LaFleur’s staff is drawing interest from multiple NFL teams.

This coach is defensive line coach DeMarcus Covington, who was hired by Green Bay to replace Jason Rebrovich, who was fired following the 2024 NFL season. Covington previously was with the New England Patriots organization for years, rising as high as defensive coordinator before they fired Jerod Mayo after his first and only season as head coach.
Earlier this week, it was reported that the Dallas Cowboys had interviewed Covington for their defensive coordinator position after firing Matt Eberflus after just one year.
Now, it is being reported that he has also interviewed with the New York Jets for the same position:

The Jets are searching for a new defensive coordinator after firing Steve Wilks after just one year as well. Aaron Glenn, the former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator, is currently New York’s head coach.
Among the other candidates for the Jets defensive coordinator position are former Wisconsin Badgers star and coach Jim Leonhard, who is currently the passing game coordinator and assistant head coach for the Denver Broncos.
