Coming into his second season as a full-time starter under center for the Green Bay Packers, Jordan Love is expected by many to take another leap. The Athletic asked 50 coaches and executives to vote on where this year’s quarterbacks should be ranked in terms of tiers. Love ended up in Tier 2 and ranked 14th overall.
Will performance match hype for Jordan Love for the 2024 season?
Some coaches think that Love will one day become a Tier 1 quarterback after seeing what he can do on the field as a starter in 2023 when he inherited the role formerly held by no other than future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers. However, one executive appears to think that the jury is still out on Love, who was taken by the Packers in the first round (26th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft.
An assistant GM said there could be a rush to anoint Love based on the Packers’ history at the position, with Green Bay getting the benefit of the doubt in a “they’ve done it again” sense.
“Squeaking into the playoffs at 9-8 out of a bad division, I’m going to have to see a little more from him personally before elevating him,” a head coach who placed Love in Tier 3 said.
Meanwhile, an unnamed coach is not putting too much stock in Love based on how the quarterback performed in the last playoffs when the Packers defeated the Dallas Cowboys before falling prey to the San Francisco 49ers.
Another head coach warned against reading too much into Love’s impressive playoff showing against the Cowboys. This coach wants to see Love in more dropback situations.
In 2023, Love racked up a total of 4.,159 passing yards and 32 touchdowns against 11 interceptions.
