This year the Green Bay Packers has had one glaring weakness in their games. I know that most will say the receiving group. While their passing game isn’t where it was the last few years, it’s still competent enough to win. Also there is some young talent that is making their mark as a NFL wide receiver.
So far this season they rank second in passing yards allowed. Meanwhile they rank 31 on yards allowed on crossing routes. If they don’t get this in check it could be the reason they don’t have a deep playoff run. It’s bad to give up quick deep plays. Yet it’s debatable if it’s worse to give up constant shorter throws that eat clock and still score.
Fans all over social media has been calling for defensive coordinator Joe Barry to be fired mid- season. I don’t know if that will help the situation at hand. It very well could make it worse by causing confusion and distracting the players. The Green Bay Packers Defensive troubles could get a lot worse than giving by good up short crossing route if they aren’t careful.
Green Bay Packers defensive scheme under Barry is keep everything in front of you then come up to make the play. Still, unless you drop linebackers in coverage then that leaves a gap in coverage. Of course as long as the Packers give up the easy completions offenses are going to take it.
As long as the offense keeps pace and the defense doesn’t give up big plays they are still a playoff caliber team. The problem comes when teams start really taking advantage of their inability to stop the crossers. Things could get bad for the Green Bay Packers fast if they don’t evolve into a more versatile defense.

My problem is the personal we have on defense (especially our corners) are far better playing man than zone. I understand they want 2 prevent the big play but to me that lacks confidence in a group with a ton of talent. I wonder what the players themselves would rather play more aggressive. They’re built for it. Joe Barry has had success nowhere and it was talent that made him seem like he might be a good hire. I for one was against it then and most definitely now.
