This off-season will be franchise-altering for the Green Bay Packers. The pending Aaron Rodgers trade will make headlines across the NFL when it happens. Rodgers declared his intentions to play for the Jets back in mid-March. While it is still presumed that the Jets are still the favorites to land Aaron Rodgers, multiple other teams have officially reached out regarding the four-time MVP. One of the biggest holdups in the trade talks is the compensation the Jets are reportedly willing to give up. It has been “laughable” to say the least. There has been another blockbuster trade floating around that could change the Packers 2023 season as well.
Green Bay Packers Defensive End Rashan Gary Named In Massive Blockbuster Trade

Freddie Boston of Fansided proposed a trade that would send two first round draft picks to the Green Bay Packers:
- 1st-Round Pick (No. 31)
- 2024 1st-Round Pick
- EDGE Rashan Gary
Freddie Boston goes on to say:
Packers fans might hate the idea of trading Rashan Gary, and understandably so, but for two first-round picks, it makes sense. With Aaron Rodgers departing, the Packers find themselves in a rebuild, whether they want to admit it or not.
The Packers will have to pay Gary in the next year. With limited cap space due to several restructures, trading a star player for premium picks could be a solution. A tough decision, yes, but one they should consider.
Kansas City needs pass-rush help but doesn’t pick until 31st in the first round, and the Super Bowl champions haven’t been afraid to trade premium draft capital for star players in the past.
In 2019, the Chiefs sent their first-rounder and a conditional future second to the Seattle Seahawks for pass rusher Frank Clark. They also swapped third-rounders. In 2021, they sent a first, third, fourth, and future fifth for tackle Orlando Brown.
They could make a similar move here for Gary, who is one of the best pass rushers in the league. He was having a Pro Bowl year before suffering a season-ending injury.
The Packers likely won’t be in contention this year or next. Here, they add two premium picks in a blockbuster trade.
Getting two first round draft picks in any trade seems like a dream scenario for any team. However, Rashan Gary could anchor the defensive pass rush for years to come. Gary is 25 years old and has one (maybe two) more mega contract extensions in his career. Clay Matthews spent nearly a decade (2009-2018) in Green Bay as a premier pass rusher. Rashan Gary has the talent to be the next “Clay Matthews” if not even better. Another key factor to consider is both of those first round draft picks the Green Bay Packers would receive from the Kansas City Chiefs would like be 25th overall or worse.

Gary isn’t going anywhere. KCs picks are more like 2nd rounders. GB isn’t Detroit or Chicago. Green Bay is moving on from Rodgers because they have faith in Love to lead them.
